Bridgewater State and Westfield State Advance to MASCAC Volleyball Tournament Semifinals
After winning their respective quarterfinal matches Wednesday, Bridgewater State and Westfield State advance to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament Semifinals to be played on Saturday.

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The the fourth-seeded Bridgewater State University volleyball team downed fifth-seeded MCLA, 3-0, in MASCAC Tournament quarterfinal round action on Wednesday evening at the Tinsley Center.
The Bears, who won by set scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-14, advance to the tournament semifinal round and will take on Framingham State University on Saturday morning at 11. The top-seeded Rams are hosting both semifinal round matches as well as the championship match on Saturday.
BSU sophomore setter Charleyne Panner (Gilford, N.H.) paced the Bears with 41 assists, nine digs and an ace. Panner now has 1,420 assists in just two seasons at BSU.
The Bears recorded 44 kills and a team hitting percentage of .297, while limiting the Trailblazers to just 20 kills and a .077 hitting percentage. Serving was an issue for both teams as they combined for 19 service errors with Bridgewater committing 12 of those.
BSU junior middle hitter Julie Hutchins (Bellingham, Mass.) finished with ten kills, a solo block and a match-best .389 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Maymon(Narragansett, R.I.) tallied a match-high 13 kills to go along with five digs, while freshman middle hitter Christina Jaros (Plymouth, Mass.) added nine kills, five digs and a pair of solo blocks.
Junior setter Courtney Parent (South Deerfield, Mass.) paced the visiting Trailblazers with nine assists, two kills, three digs, two blocks (one solo) and an ace. Freshman outside hitterRebecca Godbout (Springfield, Mass.) registered a team-best five kills, while sophomore hitter Samantha Anderson (Floral Park, N.Y.) checked in with four kills.
Bridgewater improves to 18-18 on the season with the win, while MCLA falls to 15-13. The Trailblazers will await word on a potential ECAC Tournament bid.

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State wins their quarterfinal
MASCAC tournament game against Salem State in straight sets by
scores of 25-23, 25-12 and 25-7 on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the
Woodward Center.
The Owls (13-20; 4-2) advance to the semifinals of the MASCAC
tournament while the Vikings' (5-17; 1-5) season comes to a
close.
Salem jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first set before Westfield
stormed back to tie the game at 18. Westfield opened up a two point
lead, 21-19, and maintained that gap for the win.
The Owls took control of the next two sets, highlighted by a 15-1
run in the final frame to cap off the victory behind strong serving
from freshman standout Victoria Sutphen (Holden, Mass./
Wachusett).
Westfield setter Courtney Ryan (Quincy, Mass./ Quincy) doled
out 29 assists to coordinate a balanced offensive attack. Kendyl Haney (Ashland,
Mass./ Ashland) picked up a game high 11 kills, Nicole Molleur (Union, Ky./
Tantasqua) added six kills, while Carolyn Cote (Chelmsford, Mass./
Chelmsford) and Sutphen notched five each.
The Vikings offense was led by Emily Peay's (Lebanon, Conn./ Lyman
Memorial) 11 kills and Micaela Forcaciari's (Plymouth, Mass./
Plymouth South) 19 assists.
Two Vikings recorded double digit digs on the night, Hannah
Mullarkey (Salem, Mass./ Salem) had 16 and Alexandra Hopkinson
(Reading, Mass./ Reading Memorial) tallied 11.
Sarah Green (Peabody,
Mass./ Bishop Fenwick) added six service aces in the win.
Westfield travels to top seeded Framingham State on Saturday, Nov.
8 to play in the semifinals of the MASCAC tournament at 11:00 a.m.
The other semifinal will be held at 1:00 p.m. with winners facing
off in the championship 30 minutes after the conclusion of the
second game.
