Lexington, KY --- Senior standout Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has received a nod to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-New England team as announced last week by organization publicist David Portney.
Yesterday, Jasper was also chosen to participate in the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Senior Classic, which will be held at UMass Boston on Sunday, December 7 at 12 PM.
En-route to MASCAC Player of the Year honors and her fourth all-league selection as a standout outside hitter, Jasper led the conference in kills (502) and kills per set (4.37) while she was also ranked among the top 10 in total digs (341) and aces (35).
Among NCAA Division III leaders entering the week of the national quarterfinals, Jasper is 14th in kills per set and tied for 18th in points per set (4.87) as she is the only player in New England with over 500 kills this season.
Jasper wrapped up her WSU career as the program leader in kills (1,292) and she is eighth on the all-time digs list (723). Her total kills and average kills were also new single-season records.
Due in large part to the efforts of Jasper, who notched 16 double-doubles in 34 games – including 23 contests with 12 kills or more – the Lancers went 24-10 on the campaign. WSU also made an appearance in the MASCAC Championship game and were bounced by eventual champion Salve Regina in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.
Jasper is just the second AVCA All-New England honorable mention from the MASCAC in the last 15 years as former Bridgewater State standout Kelsey Collasius received laurels in 2007.
Under the direction of 10th year head coach Bernie Chase, the Blue and Gold tied for the second-highest win total ever and posted their first 20-win season since 1986.
