Third Seeded Westfield State, Fifth Seeded Salem State Advance In 2012 MASCAC Volleyball Championships
Third-seeded Westfield State and fifth-seeded Salem State advanced to the semi-final round of the 2012 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Championships on Thursday evening, as the Owls and Vikings posted respective victories over sixth-seeded MCLA and fourth-seeded Worcester State

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State University women’s volleyball team swept MCLA, 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-14) in the quarterfinal round of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women’s volleyball tournament on Thursday, Nov. 1.
No. 3 seed Westfield (10-21) will face No. 2 seed Bridgewater State in the semifinals of the MASCAC Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1:00 p.m. The match will be played at Framingham State, the No. 1 seed. The Westfield-Bridgewater winner advances to Saturday’s 3:00 p.m. championship game.
The Owls dominated the Trailblazers (10-19), led by juniors Julia Warner (13 kills, 13 digs) and Lindsay Rescott (12 kills, 13 digs). Freshman Stana Wheeler of Sunderland (Frontier Regional) recorded 33 assists and eight digs and Nicole Molleur had six kills and two blocks. Alyssa Danilow and Carole Duquette each had four service aces.
Darien Quick had a team-high five kills for MCLA and Julia Christian contributed four kills and six digs.

Worcester, MA --- Salem State freshman Emily Peay (Lebanon, CT) impressed with 18 kills and a blistering .318 attack percentage to help lead the fifth-seeded Vikings to a 3-1 triumph over #4 Worcester State in the quarterfinal round of the MASCAC Women’s Volleyball Tournament this evening.
Salem State (6-16), who is making their first tournament appearance since the 2002 season, advances to the semifinal round to take on top-seed and host Framingham State on Saturday at 11 AM.
The Vikings fell to Bridgewater State, 3-0, in the championship during their run as the second-seed and also defeated the Lancers in the semifinals by the same score.
Worcester State’s season comes to an end at 12-15 overall.
In four closely contested sets, the Vikings took the first two 29-27 and 25-21 before the Blue and Gold won the third, 25-17. Salem State came from behind to win the match in the fourth, 27-25.
Junior Jazmin Santos (Lawrence, MA) was also solid for the Vikings with a game-best 19 kills and 18 digs while senior Brittany Roscoe (Lowell, MA) put up a match-high 32 digs.
Senior MacKenzie Carpenter (Peabody, MA) also notched a double-double with 38 assists and 22 digs as junior Nicole Roscoe (Lowell, MA) added 21 digs.
Brittany Roscoe and Peay combined for 7.5 of the teams 11 blocks in the triumph.
