Bridgewater State Claims Third Straight MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Title
For the third straight time, the Bridgewater State Bears came out on top at the MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship which was contested at Elliot Field in Fitchburg, Mass all day Saturday.

The Bears finished first in the women's team scoring with 189 points while second place finisher Westfield State came in at 162 points. Framingham State was third with 92, Fitchburg State in fourth with 81 and Worcester State close behind in fifth with 76. Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the team scores in sixth with 13 points.
Claiming seven individual titles and two relays on the day, Bridgewater State led by Jailene Escalera who took home multiple titles on the day. She was first in the 100m dash (12.20) and 200m dash (25.81). Alison McDonough also was a dual winner in the 100m hurdles (14.45) and long jump (5.55m). Kiara Abrantes was first in the 400m dash with a time of 59:47. Tristen Gomes had the top leap in the triple jump with a distance of 11.11m. Abbi Peterson repeated as MASCAC champion in the high jump with a top clearing of 1.67m.
Abrantes, McDonough and Escalera each ran a leg on the Bears' record-setting 4x100-meter relay along with Maeve Grosschedl with a time of 47.85. The 4x400m relay of Abrantes, Lily Marra, Lindsey Golden and Nicole Major finished with a time of 4:17.01.
For Westfield State, the Owls grabbed three individual crowns and the final relay. Molly Kennedy had the top time in the 1,500m run at 4:59.55. Brynne LeCours had the fastest 800m run time, clocking in at 2:28.07. Shea Hamel closed out the individual champs in the 5,000m run with a time of 19:09.47.
The Owls claimed the final relay with the quarter of B. LeCours, Tealei Chandonnet, Ariann LeCours and Alison Downin with a time of 10:32.09.
Framingham State had its strongest showing since the program began with four individual MASCAC titles on the day. Emily Newcomb crossed the line first in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 12:23.39. Her teammate Casey McAuliffe was first in the 10,000m run in a time of 39:41.72 while Kaylee Beck was a two-time champion in the hammer throw (37.50m) and shot put (11.24m).
Earning an individual crown for Fitchburg State, Ephemian Bailey had the furthest throw in the discus with a top distance of 36.75m.
Riley Sanderson was a top individual for Worcester State in the javelin, having a top heave of 38.30m to take home the conference title.
For the first time in their history, Massachusetts Maritime has a women's champion in a running event. Alyssa Grieco came across the line first in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:07.85 to claim the MASCAC title.
Next weekend, qualifying members of the MASCAC women's outdoor track & field team will head to Springfield College to compete at the Division III New England Championships.
