Westfield State Claims Fourth Straight MASCAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship
Westfield State claimed their fourth straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Smith College.

Westfield State claimed their fourth straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Smith College.
The Owls edged out second place finisher Worcester State with 197 points to the Lancers 167. Bridgewater State wasn't far behind in third with 160 while Fitchburg State was fourth with 55 points.
Westfield State had eight individual medals and two relay wins on the day. Grace Phair was a two-time winner in the mile and 3,000 meters with a time of 5:08.93 and 10:23.67, respectively. Margaret DaMotta crossed the line first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.59 while Taylor White was the top finisher in the 600 meter dash in 1:41.47. Amy O'Sullivan added another individual crown for the Owls in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:38.19.
The 4x400 quartet of DaMotta, Moira McDonald, Hannah Herron and Jill McGrath were first with a time of 4:11.41. In the 4x800 relay, Abbie Wager, Kayle Whitcomb, Erin Giugno and Sarah Tormey rounded out the track winners with a time of 10:31.23
On the field side, Lauren Gilderdale was a dual winner in the shot put and weight throw, having top throws of 12.94 meters and 17.25 meters, respectively. Mackenzie Connor cleared 2.65 meters to take home the top spot in the pole vault.
For the Lancers, the squad collected four individual crowns and the final relay. Avonia Herbert had a solid afternoon with three MASCAC titles, including the 200 meter dash (26.20) and triple jump (10.75m), Elena Pellegrini finished first in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.04. In the 4x200 meter relay, Herbert, Pellegrini, Abigail MacGregor and Brooke Barriss finished first with a time of 1:45.24, a new conference record.
Maureen Grady had a first place finish in the long jump for the Lancers with a top leap of 5.40 meters.
Bridgewater State closed out the day with three individual titles. Jessica Haywood came in first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.19. Samila Adilas was the top finished in the 60 meter hurdles with a finals time of 9.42. Abigael Peterson had the highest clearing in the high jump with a top jump of 1.56 meters.
Fitchburg State took home the final individual title of the day. Abby Murphy was the first one across the line in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:10.48.
