Westfield State Claims the 2017 MASCAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship
The Westfield State Owls claim the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athlete Conference Indoor Women’s Track and Field Championship that was held on the campus of the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.

The Westfield State Owls claim the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athlete Conference Indoor Women's Track and Field Championship that was held on the campus of the University of Southern Maine on Saturday.
The Owls earned 227 points over a close runner-up in Bridgewater State with 222 points. Worcester State narrowly landed in third with 63 points while Fitchburg State rounded out the field in fourth with 62 points.
Westfield State grabbed six individual titles and a relay crown. Jessie Cardin shattered the 5,000 meter MASCAC and New England Alliance record with a time of 18:37.33 then later in the day took home the MASCAC title in the 3,000 (11:00.93) and mile (5:18.16). Ashley Monahan won the 600 meter run with a MASCAC record time of 1:38.75. Autumn Brown was the first place finisher for the MASCAC in the 800 meter run (2:26.61). On the field side, Ashley Craig claimed the pole vault title with a top clearing of 3.40 meters (11' 1.75").
The Owls took home the crown in the 4x800 meter relay with a MASCAC record breaking time of 9:56.12, led by Mary Elizabeth Dignan, Monahan, Cardin and Brown.
Bridgewater State led the way with 10 individual MASCAC title and the final two relays. Jayci Andrews was a three-time winner on the track and in the field. She took home the MASCAC title in the long jump with a top leap of 5.22 meters (17' 1.50"), 55 meter hurdles (8.50) and 200 meter dash (26.37). Amanda Lane was the fastest league finisher in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.11 while Traci Perry finished first in the conference in the 55 meter dash in a time of 7.59 seconds. Kristan Grattan rounded out the Bears top finishers on the track with a win in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:12.05.
On the field side, Sheila O'Sullivan had the furthest distance in the weight throw with a top toss of 15.36 meters (50' 4.75"). For the fourth straight year, Samantha Richner won the high jump with a top clearing of 1.62 meters (5' 3.75"). Sydney Bennett earned a MASCAC crown in the shot put with a top throw of 12.76 meters (41' 10.5"). Molly McNamara rounded out the track individual winners for Bridgewater State with a top leap in the triple jump of 10.57 meters (34' 8.25").
The Bears took home the top spot in two of the three relays. In the 4x400, Andrews, Lane, Perry and Tess Miller crossed the line first with a time of 4:07.51. The quartet would win MASCAC glory again in the 4x200, finishing the race in 1:47.69.
Southern Maine earned the New England Alliance team title with a total of 152.50 points while Bridgewater State came in second with 129.50 points. Westfield State landed in third with 102 points.
