Geary Headlines 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Team
Midfielder Lauren Geary of Bridgewater State has been named the 2016 Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year and headlines this year’s all-conference team in a vote taken of the eight coaches from around the league.
Westfield, Mass. — Midfielder Lauren Geary of Bridgewater State has been named the 2016 Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year and headlines this year's all-conference team in a vote taken of the eight coaches from around the league.
Geary, a senior from Hull, Mass. helped the Bears to a 6-1 conference record and the second seed in the MASCAC Tournament. During the regular season, she netted 66 points on 50 goals and 16 assists while also tallying a conference leading 119 draw controls and 75 ground balls. In the Bears game against Worcester State on April 29, she became the all-time NCAA Division III record holder for career draw controls in the win over the Lancers.
Elizabeth Ettridge of Bridgewater State is the 2016 MASCAC Rookie of the Year. The freshman from Marshfield, Mass. finished the regular season with 30 goals and 10 assists for 40 points along with 24 draw controls and 18 ground balls. For helping to lead the Owls to a 6-1 league record for their second straight regular season title and the number one seed in this week's conference tournament, Jeff Pechulis has been the 2016 Champion's Choice Coach of the Year.
Joining Geary and Ettridge on the 2016 MASCAC first-team all-conference squad are Bridgewater State's Melissa Renauld, Fitchburg State's Andrea Comeau, Lia Crutchfield, Ali Laferriere, Carrie Long, Framingham State's Kimmy Foley, Westfield State's Jordan Daniels, Sydney Lambert, and Mimi Khampaeng and Worcester State's Kaila Chase and Jackie Connors.
Landing on the 2016 MASCAC second-team all-conference squad are Bridgewater State's Alex King, Mariah McKenna and Marissa Yowell, Fitchburg State's Jaimee Lutz and Elizabeth Darrigo, MCLA's Natalie Caney, Salem State's Paige Giuliano, Westfield State's Mariah McKenna, Roni Orcutt and Blair Smith and Worcester State's Mackenzie Callini and Angelina Sutherland.
