WESTFIELD, Mass. – Seven Westfield State University players scored at least two goals as the top-seeded Owls used a balanced team attack to defeat fourth-seeded Worcester State, 15-12 in the semifinals of the MASCAC women's lacrosse tournament at Alumni Field on Thursday evening.

Tonight's game was a see-saw battle. Westfield ran out to a 4-0 lead in the first six and a half minutes, with senior attack Stephanie Lenhardt (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) tallying both of her goals in that span.
The Lancers responded with a run of their own. Trailing 5-1, Worcester scored six unanswered goals, grabbing the lead at 6-5 when Molly Kilday (Westford Acadmey/Westford, Mass.) picked up the draw and went straight to goal to put the Lancers in front for the first time with 9:58 left in the first half. Mackenzie Little (Marlboro/Marlboro, Mass.) tallied just over a minute later to give the Lancers a 7-5 lead, after getting a feed from Kaila Chase (Northbridge/Northbridge, Mass.) at the top of the fan.
Westfield punched back with league rookie of the year Brooke Williams(Minnechaug/Wilbraham, Mass.) scoring off a sharp move at the top of the fan that made her defender fall, then dodged another would be defender in going to goal to cut the lead to 7-6 with 6:13 left in the half.
42 second later Williams fed Roni Orcutt (Westfield/Granville, Mass.) in transition to tie the game at 7-7. The two teams traded goals before Westfield's Caroline Smart buried a free position shot with 28 seconds left in the half to give the Owls a 9-8 lead at the intermission.
The battle continued through the early stages of the second half. Blair Smith(Milford/Milford, Mass.) scored on a feed from Lenhardt 2:32 into the half to give Westfield a two goal lead. But Worcester's Jackie Connors (Ashland/Ashland, Mass.) answered with a goal off a loose ball in front of the net with 26:34 to play to cut the lead back to one, 10-9.
Westfield appeared to take the two-goal lead back when Stephanie Godek (West Springfield/West Springfield, Mass.) took the draw and went to goal, but the goal was disallowed after a stick check to keep the lead at one.
Westfield scored three goals in a three minute span, capped by Samantha Lungarini's (Agawam/Agawam, Mass.) marker off of another Lenhardt feed. Orcutt got the draw control and surprised the defense with a long pass from midfield to Lenhardt to set up the goal, which gave Westfield a 15-10 lead with 10:57 to play.
Connors would add two more goals for the Lancers, but Westfield controlled the ball and the clock for much of the last 10 minutes to earn the win.
Westfield junior goalkeeper Mimi Khampaeng (Minnechaug/Wilbraham, Mass.)came up with 13 saves in the win, making several clutch saves on free position attempts by the Lancers, and several more on shots from point blank range.
