Bridgewater State Hires New Women's Lacrosse and Women's Track and Field Coach
Bridgewater State announces the hiring of Gina Riitano as the new women's lacrosse head coach and Amy Delgado as the new women's track and field head coach.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State announces the hiring of Gina Riitano as the new women's lacrosse head coach and Amy Delgado as the new women's track and field head coach.
Riitano is a 2005 graduate of Syracuse University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.
Riitano played two seasons of lacrosse at Division I American University for US Lacrosse Hall of Fame coach, Maureen Scott Dupchak. As a sophomore in 2003, Riitano helped the team to its' first ever Patriot League championship and earned First Team All-Patriot League recognition. She was also her team's Most Valuable Player that season. Riitano's 62 points (44 goals, 18 assists) that year set the American University single-season record. In addition, as a freshman in 2002, Riitano was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection.
Following her sophomore year Riitano transferred to Syracuse where she competed during the 2003-2004 campaign for the Division I Orange.
Most recently, Riitano served as an assistant coach at Division I Central Connecticut State University during the 2014 season. There she helped the CCSU Blue Devils to their second consecutive Northeast Conference tournament qualifier. Prior to that, she was the head coach of the Upstate New York Girls at the 2013 Under Armour All-America Lacrosse and also spent a season at the collegiate club level leading the Boston College women's lacrosse club.
In addition, Riitano has spent time as a coach for Maximum Exposure Lacrosse Camps, and has worked with high school clubs throughout the nation such as Wildcat Elite Club, Team Revolution and X-Team.
Riitano has also found ways to be a part of lacrosse outside of coaching. She has worked as a technical representative for Under Armour Lacrosse for the past four years and previously worked as a a program manager for WomensLax.com.
In 2012, Riitano was inducted into the Albany Academy for Girls Athletics Hall of Fame. Riitano was a three sport athlete and Academic All-American when she attended Albany Academy for Girls. She is currently an active member of her alma mater's alumni council.
"We are very excited to have someone of Gina's playing and coaching caliber join us at Bridgewater," noted Lamb. "Her experience is certain to he lead our lacrosse program to higher levels of competition and the players are ready for the challenge."
Delgado, who served as an assistant coach (sprints) at BSU each of the past two seasons, is a graduate of UMass Lowell where she was a four-year sprinter for the River Hawks from 2008 to 2012 as well as a team captain during her junior and senior years.
Amy received a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health from UMass in 2012. She served as the chair of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), was named to the Dean's List each of her last three academic years and was a Jane Pankovich Austin Endowed Scholarship Recipient in 2012.
Delgado was also named Northeast-10 Track Athlete of the Week in 2011, and was a two time member of the NE-10 All-Conference Track & Field Team in 2011 and 2012. She also competed at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships five straight seasons (indoor/outdoor) between 2010 and 2012.
Amy completed the teaching licensure program at BSU this past December (2013) and will be starting her professional career as a health teacher at Attleboro High School in September.
