North Adams, MA- The MCLA Women's
basketball team continues to establish new heights as they were
awarded a sixth seed in the upcoming ECAC New England
Championships. The Trailblazers will host 3rd seeded Endicott
College on Wednesday night at 7pm. The University of New
England is the top seed.
The postseason bid is the second consecutive for the Trailblazers
after they competed in the NCAA tournament a year ago. The
ECAC bid marks the first ever in the program's history.
MCLA is led by sixth year head coach Holly McGovern. McGovern
has turned MCLA into one of the top programs within the MASCAC.
Her Trailblazers continue to set program records in the
process. The 17 win regular season marks the most in school
history and is just one win shy of the single season program record
set just one year ago.
MCLA is fueled by the 2011 MASCAC player of the year, junior Jen
Wehner. Wehner lead the conference in scoring, rebounding,
field goal percentage, and blocks. She was named the
conferences player of the week on five different occasions.
She has accumulated 22 double doubles on the season.
Joining Wehner is another All MASCAC first team selection in Alie
Dobrovolc. Dobrovolc was a nice complement to Wehner often
scoring in transition or slashing to the hoop. Sophomore Lucy
Tremblay has also recovered from an early season ankle injury to
provide an outside threat down the stretch.
MCLA is hosting the quarterfinal game even though Endicott earned
the higher seed. The 3rd seeded Gulls were not able to host
which is why MCLA was awarded the home game.
The winner will face off against the other quarterfinal victor
which will pit 7th seeded Regis College versus 2nd seeded Southern
Maine.
