Westfield State Claims Top Seed in 2024 MASCAC Softball Tournament
After winning their first MASCAC Regular Season title since 2011, Westfield State claimed the top spot in the 2024 MASCAC Softball Tournament which begins on Wednesday, May 8 with first round action.

Up first on Wednesday, #3 Worcester State hosts #6 Fitchburg State at 4 pm while #4 Salem State hosts #5 Bridgewater State at 6 pm. The first round winners will then move on to the double elimination portion of the bracket on Friday, May 10 with the winner of Bridgewater State/Salem State facing top seed Westfield State at 3 pm and the winner of Worcester State/Fitchburg State meeting up with #2 Framingham State at 4 pm.
The semifinals will be contested at Westfield State on Saturday, May 11 with games at 11 am, 1 pm and 30 minutes after game two. The two remaining teams will meet on Sunday, May 12 for the MASCAC Tournament Championship and the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament.
The Owls earned the right to host the MASCAC Tournament after finishing 12-2 in league action for their first regular season crown in 13 years. The team is led by Hannah Wodecki who finished the regular season in the top two of the MASCAC in several categories, including batting average (.439), slugging percentage (.780), hits (58), triples (6) home runs (8), RBI (54) and sacrifice flies (5). She also collected 32 runs scored, nine doubles and four stolen bases.
With the other quarterfinal hosting duties is Framingham State who were 11-3 in MASCAC play. Belting her way through the regular season was Kelsey McGuill who hit at a .396 clip with 42 total hits, 16 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 32 RBI, 30 runs scored, a .764 slugging percentage and .496 on-base percentage.
Worcester State landed in third by virtue of the conference tiebreaker after also finishing 11-3 this season. In the circle, Emily Bartlett was a force for the Lancers, leading the league in strikeouts (153), strikeouts per game (9.15), win (15), shutouts (4), ERA (1.97) and batting average against (.180) over 117 innings pitched.
Grabbing the final hosting spot is Salem State with the fourth seed. The Vikings were 7-7 to close out league competition. In her first year with the team, Sam Gaona made her mark, batting .330 with 19 stolen bases, 20 RBI, 36 total hits, 22 runs scored, eight walks and a .375 on-base percentage.
Bridgewater State and Fitchburg State round out this year's tournament field with the fifth and sixth seed, respectively. For the Bears, Sydney Schaefer has been solid in her first year, hitting .387 with 41 total hits, 11 doubles, two triples, 28 RBI, 17 runs scored, 10 walks, eight stolen bases, a .528 slugging percentage and .430 on-base percentage. For the Falcons, Molly Grass batted .319 with 38 total hits, nine triples, a home run, 17 walks and four stolen bases.
During last year's MASCAC Softball Tournament, top seed Framingham State defeated second seed Bridgewater State in the title game to claim their second straight crown and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
