Westfield State Claims 2023 MASCAC Men's Cross Country Championship
For the first time since 2016, the Westfield State Owls are the MASCAC Men's Cross Country Champions after winning the meet hosted by Worcester State in Devens, Mass.
For the first time since 2016, the Westfield State Owls are the MASCAC Men's Cross Country Champions after winning the meet hosted by Worcester State in Devens, Mass.
The Owls collected 26 points to take home the crown while Bridgewater State came in second place with 47 points. Fitchburg State landed in third with 66 points, Framingham State in fourth with 132 and Mass. Maritime in fifth with 135. Rounding out the team standings were Worcester State and MCLA in sixth and seventh with 146 and 205 points, respectively.
Nathan Sylven of Westfield State took home individual champion and Rookie of the Year accolades after crossing the line first with an 8k time of 26:19. Joining Sylven in the top 10 for All-Conference accolades were teammates John Nekitopoulos in third with a time of 27:45, Will Buckley in fifth with a time of 28:03, Abdi Nassir in seventh with a time of 28:19 and Scott Porter in 10th with a time of 28:31.
For Bridgewater State, Kyle Ackroyd was the first Bear to finish with an 8k time of 27:16, good enough for second place. Teammates Ryan Goldman came in sixth with a time of 28:11 while Mitchell Parent was ninth with a time of 28:27.
Michael Burns earned All-Conference honors after finishing eighth in a time of 28:24.
Patrick Walsh of Framingham State rounds out the top 10. His time of 27:48 was good enough for fourth place and helped the Rams to a fourth place team finish.
Marlee Berg of Westfield State was voted as the 2023 BSN Sports Men's Coach of the Year.
The men's teams get a week off before returning to competition on November 11th at their respective NCAA DIII Regional meets.
