Westfield State Men, Women Seek Repeat Titles at the 2017 MASCAC Cross Country Championships
The Westfield State men's and women's cross country look to reclaim their titles at the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Westfield State on Saturday, October 28.
The Westfield State men's and women's cross country look to reclaim their titles at the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships hosted by Westfield State on Saturday, October 28.
The meet will be run at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.. The MASCAC men's squads will run first with the 8k race at 11 am followed by the women in the 5k at noon. Following both of the races, the awards will be announced, including the meet champions, finalists, runner and rookie of the year along with coach of the year.
During the 2016 race, Westfield State took home the title with 34 points while runner-up Fitchburg State was next with 50 points. Jake Hastings of Fitchburg State took home the 2016 MASCAC Runner of the Year honors as the top overall individual finisher with an 8k time of 26:02. Earning the 2016 MASCAC Rookie of the Year accolade was Trevor Wysong of Bridgewater State with an 8k time of 26:33, good enough for fourth.
For the women's team, Westfield State won their 13th straight MASCAC Championship with 24 points overall while runner-up Worcester State came in second with 57. The Owls Jessie Cardin earned her third straight MASCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year accolade as the top overall individual finisher with a course record 5k time of 17:55. Bridgewater State's Jenise Madden was the top first time performer to earn MASCAC Rookie of the Year with a 5k time of 19:40, good enough for third place.
