Westfield State Repeats as MASCAC Men's Cross Country Champions
The Westfield State Owls claim their second straight title at the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Williamstown, Massachusetts in conjunction with the New England Alliance meet.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Westfield State Owls claim their second straight title at the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Williamstown, Massachusetts in conjunction with the New England Alliance meet.
As a team, the Owls finished with 34 points over second place Bridgewater State with 51 points. Fitchburg State was in third with 70 points while Worcester State came in fourth with 103 points. Massachusetts Maritime was next in fifth with 110 points. MCLA and Framingham State rounded out the team finishers with 194 and 205 points, respectively.
Taking home the MASCAC Runner of the Year honors and earning a spot on the All-Conference team was Andrew Sukeforth of Bridgewater State who was the top MASCAC finisher with an 8k time of 26:30.23. Joining Sukeforth on the All-Conference squad was teammate Luke Devin who crossed the line fifth with a time of 27:23.85.
Jake Hastings of Fitchburg State was the second runner to cross the line with an 8k time of 27:03.58 to earn MASCAC Rookie of the Year. Teammate Brian Amaral also landed on the All-Conference team with a seventh place finish in a time of 27:26.74.
Overall meet winner Westfield State landed five runners in the top 10 for All-Conference accolades. Leading the way was Mike Skelly in third (27:11.50) followed by Chris Williams in fourth (27:11.86), Derik Noland in eighth (27:36.20), Zach Gross in ninth (27:37.69) and Justin Halley in 10th (27:46.38).
Rounding out the All-Conference finishers was Brady Phillips of Worcester State who finished in a time of 27:25.25.
Chris Ryan of Massachusetts Maritime was named the Champion's Choice Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year by his peers after leading the Buccaneers to a fifth place team finish.
Keene State was the New England Alliance Champion with 40 points while Westfield State and Bridgewater State came next in second and third.
