Bridgewater State Wins Third Consecutive MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Crown
For the third consecutive season, the Bridgewater State men's outdoor track and field team has won the MASCAC Outdoor Championship which was hosted by Fitchburg State on Saturday at Elliot Field.
For the third consecutive season, the Bridgewater State men's outdoor track and field team has won the MASCAC Outdoor Championship which was hosted by Fitchburg State on Saturday at Elliot Field.
The Bears collected 249 points to win the title while Westfield State was up next in second with 126 points. Fitchburg State followed close behind in third with 120. Worcester State and Massachusetts Maritime closed out the team scores in fourth and fifth with 92 and 36 points, respectively.
Bridgewater State took home seven individual titles and a relay on the day. Chigozie Adigwe was a two-time winner on th day in the 110m hurdles (15.15) and the 400m hurdles (56.98) . Kevin McBirney also found himself as a dual winner on the day in the 800m run (2:01.12) and 1,500m run (4:02.49).
On the field side, Corey Stalters claimed the javelin title with a top throw of 58.06m. Thomas Barinelli cleared the top height in the high jump at 1.90m. Jack Galvin was also an individual winner in the shot put with a top throw of 13.92m.
The Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad featuring Michael Young, Nathan Candido, Mason Matias and Jacob DeAndrade won the event with a time of 43.02 seconds.
Westfield State had a relay champion in the 4x800m. The quartet of Rowan Gottshall, Fox Guajardo, Nick Hanley, and Colin Mahoney won the relay with a time of 8:37.39.
Fitchburg State grabbed five individual crowns on the day. Taban Manyok was the star of the day for the Falcons, taking home three individual titles and running a leg on a relay. Manyok was first in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:59.85), 10,000m run (33:08.73) and 5,000m run (16:07.66). In the final event of the day, Manyok along with Nathaniel Felix, Paul Michaelidis and Nicholas Polanco won the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:28.89. Gene Bouthiette was the pole vault individual winner with a top clearing of 3.75m while Eric Shimiyimana hop, skipped and jumped to a triple jump honor at 13.61m.
Brodie Jacques had a solid day for Worcester State. He earned the top spot in three events, including the 100m dash (10.99), 200m dash (22.16) and long jump (6.95m).
Anthony Childs became the first Massachusetts Maritime male running champion with his first place finish with a time of 50.55 in the 400m dash. Joining him as a champion was Joshua Rousseau who earned two crowns with a first place finish in the hammer (50.02m) and discus (42.46m). This was also the first time a Buccaneer won two field events.
Next weekend, qualifying members of the MASCAC men's outdoor track & field team will head to Springfield College to compete at the Division III New England Championships.
