MASCAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Weekly Report 2/18
Matthew Lighten and Exondus Barnes of Bridgewater State along with Owen Ortiz of Westfield State take home MASCAC Men's Indoor Track and Field weekly accolades after competing at the conference championship over the weekend. Awards brought to you by GEICO.
Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week |
Lighten captured the MASCAC title and set a conference meet record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.94 seconds as he helped the Bears win their third straight MASCAC Indoor Championship. Also ran a leg on the Bears’ school record-setting 4x200-meter relay squad which captured the MASCAC title with a time of 1:28.66. Broke the previous school mark of 1:29.45 set in 2013. Placed second in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.16 seconds and a preliminary time of 7.08 seconds. Currently ranks first in all of Division III in the 200 and 14th in New England in the 60. |

Ortiz took home a pair of MASCAC titles in the long jump (7.02m/ 23” 0.5”), a personal best and the triple jump (13.88m/ 13.38m /43’ 10.75”) at the 2020 MASCAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship. Added a fourth place finish in the 60 meter dash with a finals time of 7.18 |
Men's Indoor Rookie of the Week |
Barnes placed second in the long jump (6.82m/22’4.5”) and third in the high jump (1.90m/6’2.75”) at the 2020 MASCAC Indoor Championships as he helped the Bears capture their third straight MASCAC indoor crown. His mark in the long jump was a personal-best. Currently ranks 10th in New England in the long jump and 13th in the high jump. |
