Bridgewater State Claims the 2018 MASCAC and New England Alliance Men's Outdoor Track and Field Titles
The Bridgewater State Bears claimed both the MASCAC and New England Alliance Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday on their home track at Swenson Field.

The Bears won the MASCAC title with 257 points while second place finisher Westfield State had 171. Worcester State was next in third with 113 points while Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the field in fourth and fifth with 87 and 16 points, respectively.
MASCAC Champions Bridgewater State claimed nine individual titles and a relay on the day. Trevor Wysong was a double winner in both the 5,000 (15:42.44) and the 10,000 (32:28.57). Josh Higgins won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.02. Michael Kotleski claimed the 400 meter hurdle title (55.57) while teammate Joe Keough was champ in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:42.47).
The quartet of John Lara, Kotleski, Higgins and Lamont Haynes broke the MASCAC record in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:19.11.
On the field side, Jamie Carlson grabbed the men's pole vault title with a top clearing of 4.10 meters (13' 5.25"). Joshua Moore was first in the long jump (6.75m/ 22' 1.75") while Cameron Williamson leaped the farthest in triple jump for the MASCAC title (14.42m/47' 3.75"). Nick Johnson closed out the winners for the Bears in the discus throw with a top distance of 45.03 meters (147' 9").
Runner-up Westfield State finished with two individual titles and two relays. Paul James claimed the MASCAC title in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.26. Brent Kane won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.66.
In the 4x100 relay, the quartet of William Canty, James, Dorian Johnson and Owen Ortiz crossed the line first in the MASCAC with a time of 42.74. Zac Bentley, Conner Grady, Conner Gottzmann and Shea Hiltz took home the 4x800 meter relay crown with a new MASCAC record time of 8:02.69.
Worcester State had five individual MASCAC winners on the day. Edward Boamah was a dual champion in both the 200 (22.30) and 400 (49.08) meter dash. Justin Lewis broke the league high jump record with a top clearing of 2.09 meters (6' 10.25"). Elmer Acuna finished first in the shot put (15.65m/ 51' 4.25") while Marcus Vieira threw the farthest in the hammer throw for the league crown (52.42m/ 172').
Rounding out the individual winners was Fitchburg State. Jake Hastings grabbed the 1,500 meter league crown with a time of 3:57.61 while Cameron Stalters was first in the javelin throw with a top distance of 66.44 meters (218').
Bridgewater State also took home the New England Alliance Championship with 166 points over second place finisher UMass Dartmouth with 108.50. The Alliance is run with the 11 MASCAC and Little East schools.
