Westfield State Earns 2014 MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Crown
The Westfield State Owls earned the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday over runner-up and last season’s winner Bridgewater State at the 2014 MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships.

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Westfield State Owls earned the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday over runner-up and last season's winner Bridgewater State at the 2014 MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships.
Hosted on the campus of UMass Dartmouth, Westfield State regained the title with 219 points over two-time reigning champions Bridgewater State who came in second with 175 points. Worcester State landed in third with 150 points while Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime came in fourth and fifth with 82 and 20 points, respectively.
The Owls earned seven individual crowns on the day. Tevin Cintron and Michael Skelly finished first in the 800 meter run (1:57.89) and 1,500 meter run (4:03.99), respectively while Tim Shea took home the top spot in the 10,000 meter run (32:48.82). Michael Kelleher placed first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:47.20).
Travon Godette was a dual winner for Westfield State with the best leap in the high jump (6'4"/1.93 meters) and top throw in the javelin (203' 2"/61.94 meters). Teammate Steve Sam came in first in the discus throw (148'6"/45.27 meters). The Owls grabbed the top spot in the 4x800 meter relay (8:19.61) to earn the MASCAC Team Title.
Runner-up and New England Alliance team winner Bridgewater State finished with eight individual champions. Brian Espinosa claimed three individual crowns in the 100 (10.88) and 200 meter dash (21.62) while adding another in the long jump (22' 3"/6.78 meters). Conor Murtaugh claimed the top spot in the 110 meter hurdles (14.83) and Kevin Sawyer grabbed another champion honor for the Bears in the 400 meter hurdles (56.15).
Joshua Danner-Hicks set a new MASCAC/New England Alliance record in the triple jump (48'/14.63 meters), besting his previously held record by five inches. Stephen Cawley and Declan Wirzburger rounded out the individual winners for Bridgewater State in the shot put (47' 8.5"/14.54 meters) and hammer throw (152' 5"/46.45 meters), respectively.
Helping Worcester State to a third place finish, Ramses Rafael took home top honors in the 400 meter dash (50.35). The Lancers also earned top billing in the 4x100 meter relay (41.84) and 4x400 meter relay (3:24.11).
Fitchburg State earned two individual championships on their way to a fourth place team finish. Brian Amaral crossed the line first in the 5,000 meter run (15:45.70) while teammate Patrick Conaty finished first in the pole vault (14'9"/4.50 meters).
