Westfield, Mass. — Anthony Basile of MCLA is the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and headlines the All-Conference Team as voted on by the coaches from around the league.
The senior from East Longmeadow, Mass. helped the Trailblazers to the fourth seed in this week’s tournament. He closed out the regular season first in goals with 10, points with 22 and shots with 65. He also netted the second most game-winning goals with three and two assists. This is Basile’s third time as a member of the MASCAC All-Conference team having been selected in 2014 and 2015.
Matthew Krikorian of Fitchburg State has earned the 2016 MASCAC Rookie of the Year accolades. In his first season with the Falcons, the freshman from Groton, Mass. finished third in the league with nine goals and a .429 shooting percentage, fourth in points with 19 and seventh in game-winning goals with two.
For leading the Lancers to the MASCAC regular season title and the number one seed in the MASCAC Tournament, Jason Willis of Worcester State has been named the 2016 Champion’s Choice Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year.
Joining Basile on the 2016 MASCAC First Team is Bridgewater State’s Filipe Gomes and Jonathan Pires, Fitchburg State’s Steven Martinez, Framingham State’s Simon Appiah, MCLA’s Anthony Basile and Edward Boateng, Massachusetts Maritime’s Matthew McDonough and Mick Rouette and Worcester State’s Jason Barrett and Matthew Dent.
Landing on the 2016 MASCAC Second Team is Bridgewater State’s Sawyer Fleck, Kane Moran and, Fitchburg State’s Nick Masley, Framingham State’s Johance Liverpool and Ken Stahovish, Massachusetts Maritime’s Adam Crawford, Brendan Gawron, Scott Matoian and Mike Pruchnik, Westfield State’s Kory McGilvray and Worcester State’s George Siotis.
