BRIDGEWATER & BUZZARDS BAY, Mass.- The Bridgewater State Bears and the Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers men's soccer teams advance to the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinals on Friday after winning their respective quarterfinal match-ups on Tuesday.
Starting the day off was the third-seeded Bears hosting the sixth-seeded Fitchburg State Falcons. Getting all the goals they would need for the win in the first half, Bridgewater State netted their first goal off a throw in at the 17:24 mark by sophomore Kolin Campbell to put them up 1-0.
Less than 20 minutes later, David Wilson would find the back of the net on an unassisted goal to give the Bears a 2-0 advantage that would hold up for the win. The Falcons had trouble getting momentum offensively only registering three shots on goal to Bridgewater State's 13 on the afternoon.
The Bears will meet up Friday, November 8 with the second-seeded Framingham State Rams, who earned a first round bye after finishing 4-2-1 in conference. Playing the game in Framingham, Mass., it set to begin at 2 p.m.
Playing in the second quarterfinal round of the day, fourth-seeded Massachusetts Maritime faced off with fifth-seeded Salem State.
Staying deadlocked through most of the game, it was within two minutes of the final horn that the Buccaneers Connor McInnis drained a pass from teammate Stuart Kinsman to give Massachusetts Maritime the lead and the win, 1-0.
The Buccaneers outshot the Vikings 12-7 overall with Buccaneers goalie Joe Cohen only needing to turn away two to help his team to the quarterfinal victory. Salem State' goalie saved five before the eventual game winner.
The win gives the Buccaneers their first ever post-season victory and a meeting on Friday with the number one seed Worcester State. That game is in Worcester, Mass. and is set to begin at 7 p.m.
