Westfield State’s Leef Named MASCAC Men’s Ice Hockey Player of the Year, Headlines 2016-17 All-Conference Team
Senior Jackson Leef of Westfield State has been named the 2016-17 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and headlines the All-Conference team as voted on by the coaches from around the league.
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Senior Jackson Leef of Westfield State has been named the 2016-17 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and headlines the All-Conference team as voted on by the coaches from around the league.
Leef, a forward from Fort Wayne, Ind., finished the season tied for first in the conference in total points with 19 goals and 21 assists. His 19 goals were second-most in the league while his assists were the third highest in the conference. He also tallied the second-most power play points with 15 on six goals and nine assists. In the final game of the regular season against Plymouth State, he netted his 100th point on a late goal. Leef is currently ninth in Division III in both points (1.6) and goals per game (0.76).
Tyler Warila of Fitchburg State is the 2016-17 MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Year. The forward from Shirley, Mass. ended his freshman year fourth in the conference in points with 30 on 10 goals and 20 assists. His assists were the fourth highest in the league. He was tied for first in game-winning goals with three and led all freshman in scoring.
Erik Noack of UMass Dartmouth has been named the 2016-17 Champion's Choice Men's Ice Hockey Coach of the Year in his first season with the Corsairs after leading them to a 12-6 conference record and the third seed in the MASCAC Tournament.
Joining Leef on the MASCAC All-Conference First Team are Ryan Stevens of Plymouth State and Casey Shea of UMass Dartmouth at forward, Jerry Laakso of UMass Dartmouth and Callum Hofford of Salem State on defense and Drew Michals of UMass Dartmouth in goal.
The MASCAC Second Team is made up of Michael Economos of Plymouth State, Brandon Platt of Salem State and Mike Kelly of UMass Dartmouth at forward, Tim Perron of Plymouth State and Carl Greco of Westfield State on defense and Evan Morelli of Plymouth State in goal.
