Springfield College Picked to Win 2019 MASCAC Men’s Golf Championship
Springfield College has been chosen to win the 2019 MASCAC Men’s Golf Championship as voted on by the coaches from around the league. Dean, Eastern Nazarene, Elms, Mitchell and Springfield joined the MASCAC as affiliates this year from the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).

Westfield, Mass.— Springfield College has been chosen to win the 2019 MASCAC Men's Golf Championship as voted on by the coaches from around the league. Dean, Eastern Nazarene, Elms, Mitchell and Springfield joined the MASCAC as affiliates this year from the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).
Springfield College, the 2018 NECC Men's Golf champions collected 59 points and six first place votes. The Pride are returning their entire line-up from a year ago, which includes the 2018 NECC Golfer of the Year, Jakob Raichle and the 2018 runner-up Mike Strong. Raichle finished atop the leader board with a 148, while Strong finished in a close second, shooting a 150 over the two-day tournament.
Westfield State landed in second with 50 points and a first-place vote. The Owls are the reigning MASCAC champions after shooting 319 and return several student-athletes from the winning squad. Among the returners is the MASCAC individual co-champion Matteo Godek, who shot a 77 in the one-day event.
Up next in third is Salem State with 48 points and the final two first place votes. The Vikings finished second by virtue of the tiebreaker with a team score of 319. Coming back for the team is Nick Sheehan who shot an 84 and Christian McKenna who shot a 91.
Elms College is tabbed to finish fourth with 46 points. The Blazers were the NECC runner-up at last year's championship. William Marchand shot a two-day total of 157 to finish fourth overall and is back for the team this season.
Sitting in fifth with 35 points is Worcester State. In his first season with the Lancers, Brodie Coughlin turned in a score of 82 to lead the team and is back to compete this season.
Grabbing the sixth spot is Mitchell College with 30 points. The Mariners bring back Nick Knisel who finished the 2018 championships tied for 14th with a total two-day score of 164.
Eastern Nazarene College slated to finish seventh in this year's poll. During last year's championship, Jacob Waldroop fired a 76 on Sunday to post a 156 for the weekend and earn an All-Conference berth, as he clinched third place in the individual standings. He is back this season for the Lions.
Rounding out the 2019 poll is Dean College and MCLA with 18 points and 15 points, respectively. For the Bulldogs, Charlie Banks finished tied for 16th to lead the Dean contingent, carding a two-day total of 167 (+23). For the Trailblazers, Reese Dwyer was the top finisher, carding an 88 at the MASCAC championship.
