WACO, Texas – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Pat Sullivan (Everett, Mass.) became the second All-American in Corsair football program history on Monday, as he was named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches' All-America Second Team as an offensive lineman. In the first year that the AFCA has selected a Second Team since 1945, Sullivan becomes one of just 50 Division III football players nationally to earn the prestigious honor.

Additionally, Sullivan culminated his career on Saturday, Dec. 17, gathering Honorable Mention All-American accolades from D3football.com as the national publication's All-America teams were announced prior to the 2017 Stagg Bowl.

Sullivan becomes the second All-American in the 29-year history of UMass Dartmouth football, joining Mike Cotton who was named to the Football Gazette First Team as a defensive back in 1998. Along with Trinity (Conn.)'s Chris Simmons, Western New England's Obi Etuka and Anna Maria's Francis Cole, Sullivan rounds out the only four All-American honorees from New England programs. Furthermore, he is one of only 10 offensive linemen to make this year's lists and the only representative from a MASCAC team.

The honor culminates the most decorated season in Sullivan's four-year career as a Corsair. A captain this season, he was tabbed to the New England Football Writers Association (NEFWA) Division II/III All-New England team, and last week earned All-East First Team accolades from D3football.com. In November, he was selected by the conference's head coaches as the MASCAC Offensive Lineman of the Year and repeated as a First Team All-Conference selection.

The AFCA Division III All-America Selection Committee selects the annual awardees, and is comprised of three head coaches from each of the AFCA's eight districts. The coaches in each district rank the top nominees from their respective district prior to the selection conference call. The D3football.com All-America teams are voted upon by the nation's sports information directors and publication staff.

Sullivan led the prolific UMass Dartmouth offense to its most productive season in program history. The Corsairs set a new program standard for total yards offense in a season with 4,641 total yards (464.1 yards per game). Sullivan paved the way for a MASCAC-best 2,879 rushing yards, including 2,205 in league contests, with three UMass Dartmouth running backs totaling over 500 on the season. In six separate games, the offense posted 500-plus yards, including a 705-yard performance against Mass. Maritime on Oct. 22. The Corsairs averaged 30.1 points per game through 10 outings, including league-highs in both rushing (24) and passing (19) touchdowns. Sullivan and his fellow linemen provided protection for 1,762 passing yards (176.2 per game), while allowing just 19 sacks on the campaign.

UMass Dartmouth posted a 5-5 overall record and 4-4 slate in the league during the 2016 season for the program's highest win totals since 2011. During the course of the season, the Corsairs handed Framingham State their first-ever MASCAC loss and produced the program's first shutout since 2011 with a 33-0 victory over Mass. Maritime while additionally claiming wins over Mount Ida, Westfield State and Worcester State.
