Framingham State quarterback Matt Silva has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III North Football Offensive Player of the Year and headlines the First Team All-Stars as announced by the organization.
Joining Silva on the ECAC North All-Star Teams are teammates Quentin Jones, Matt Mangano and Nick Stanfield, Bridgewater State's Ty McGrath, Massachusetts Maritime's Kenny Pierce, Westfield State's Marcus Pettigrew and Worcester State's Terrence Gibson.
Silva continues to accrue honors after a record breaking senior season. Earlier this month he earned his first D3football.com recognition after being tabbed as the MASCAC's Offensive Player of the Year and a first team all-conference selection. Silva ranked among the nation's and conference's leaders in most passing categories throughout the year. He completed 264-of-411 passes for 3,168 yards with a school record 41 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. Silva, who currently holds 12 FSU passing records, established new school records for touchdowns in a game (6), touchdowns in a season (41), yards passing in a game (510) and season (3,168) during his senior campaign. Silva also received a pair of New England Football Writer's Gold Helmet Awards, the NEFW Season Gold Helmet Award and he was selected as the recipient of the 2015 Joseph P. Zabilski Award which is presented annually by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston to the top offensive and defensive player in Division II and III.
Stanfield adds to his hardware following a stellar senior season. Stanfield was previously named to the D3football.com All-Region Team as well as All-New England by the New England Football Writers after repeating as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Offensive Lineman of the Year. Stanfield is a three time All-MASCAC first team selection and was tabbed as the New England Football Conference's (NEFC) Offensive Rookie of the Year after his freshman season in 2012. Stanfield anchored the Rams offensive line in 2015 as the Rams offense averaged 435 yards and 38 points per game while allowing just 15 sacks on the year.
Quentin Jones earns his first All-Star nod after earning back-to-back All-MASCAC honors and a D3football.com All-North selection. Jones, a senior, led the MASCAC in sacks racking up 11 on the year for a conference best loss of 72 yards. Jones recorded 46 total tackles on the year with 32 solo stops including 16.5 for a loss.
Mangano, the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year and a first team all-conference selection, garners his first All-Star honors after recording 53 tackles, including 37 solo and three for a loss, during his final season. Mangano, a D3football.com All-Region and NEFW All-New England selection, tallied two interceptions that he returned for 32 yards, five pass breakups and a blocked kick during his final season with the Rams.
McGrath anchored an outstanding BSU offensive line which paved the way for 4,676 yards of total offense in eleven games this past season including 2,139 through the air and 2,537 on the ground. The o-line allowed just 15 sacks, while the team averaged 32.3 points per game.
Pierce finished the 2015 season ranked second in the conference with 1,211 rushing yards while scoring a school-record 15 rushing touchdowns (16 overall). Pierce, who ranks among the top 40 NCAA Division III national leaders in five different categories, eclipsed the 200-yard mark three times during the course of the year, including a career-best 240 yard performance in a 48-27 victory over Plymouth State on November 7th.
Pettigrew ranked second in the MASCAC in tackles for loss (16) and fourth in sacks (6), and total tackles (88). A first team selection as a junior, Pettigrew finishes his collegiate career with 232 total tackles, 46 tackles for loss, and 18.5 sacks.
Gibson played in nine games for the Lancers and finished his year with a total of 749 yards on 27 kick returns. Gibson sat at the top of the conference in kick returns, averaging 27.7 yards per return. Gibson's highlight of the season was his 97-yard kick return for a touchdown against Salve Regina on Sep. 5.
