WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Western Connecticut State's Octavias McKoy adds another post-season accolade to his resume after being named to the American Football Coaches Association 2013 Division III Coaches All-America Team.
Already this year, McKoy has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, D3football.com East Region Offensive Player of the Year, New England Football Writers First Team All-New England and 2013 Gridiron Club of Boston Year-End Gold Helmet Award winner.
Along with three other NCAA Division III football student-athletes, McKoy is a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which will be decided on December 18 in Salem, Va., at a banquet kicking-off a series of Division III Stagg Bowl championship events.
Helping his team to a 6-2 record in the MASCAC this season, McKoy led the league in yards per game (183) and touchdowns (26). The high point of the season was a 455 rushing yard performance, which earned him a spot, not only in the record books but on ESPN's Sportscenter as well.
The AFCA’s Division
III All-America Selection Committee is made up of three head
coaches from each of the AFCA’s nine districts, one of whom
serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who
serves as the chairman of the selection committee. The coaches in
each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their
respective districts prior to a conference call between the
district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the team is
chosen.
