Tim Rich's collegiate debut at quarterback was memorable as the Westfield State University junior was selected the offensive player of the week in the 16-team New England Football Conference.
In his first game action at quarterback in five years, since he was a star signal caller at Chelmsford High School in 2007, Rich directed Westfield to a season-opening 41-18 victory over Nichols College.
The 5-10, 185-pounder compiled 242 total offensive yards. He completed 11 of 22 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns (10, 24, 50 yards) and rushed for 37 net yards on 13 carries.
A New England and three-time state wrestling champion, Rich began his collegiate career at Edinboro University, an NCAA Division I wrestling juggernaut located in northwestern Pennsylvania. He was a reserve defensive back for Westfield State in 2011.
Named to the NEFC weekly honor roll from Westfield was senior linebacker Anthony Raneri (Ayer), who returned an intereception 23 yards for touchdown and also recovered a fumble deep in Owl territory.
