Fitchburg State's May, Bridgewater State's Kerns Named 2021 MASCAC Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Year and Headline the 2021 Baseball All-Conference Teams
Zachary May from Fitchburg State and David Kerns from Bridgewater State were voted this year's Player and Pitcher of the Year by the MASCAC baseball coaches. They highlight the 2021 MASCAC All-Conference Teams.
WESTFIELD, Mass. — Fitchburg State's Zachary May and Bridgewater State's David Kerns have been named the 2021 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Year and headline the all-conference squad which is voted on by the coaches from around the conference.
May, a senior first baseman from Rochdale, Mass., was named the 2021 MASCAC Player of the Year. His power numbers were on display this year as he led the league in home runs (3) and RBI (20) while slugging .594. For the season, he batted .377 with eight multi-hit games and scored 19 runs. He reached base safely in all but one game.
Kerns, a junior from East Cambridge, Mass, was voted the 2021 MASCAC Pitcher of the Year by the league’s coaches. He was a strong strikeout pitcher ranking second in the league with 42 and posted a 2.62 ERA for the Bears. He pitched three complete games, including two performances in which allowed just one run.
Scott Nosky, a freshman from Dedham Mass., had a solid first season on the mound for Framingham State and was selected as the 2021 MASCAC Rookie of the Year. Nosky tossed 34 innings this year, making eight appearances, including five starts. He went 3-3 on the mound with a 3.71 ERA and 36 strikeouts. He completed two games this season, including a seven-inning shutout early in the season.
Shawn Manfredo of Fitchburg State is the 2021 Champion's Choice Coach of the Year. He led the Falcons to a 7-3 MASCAC record and the top seed in the MASCAC Baseball Championship Series.
Joining Kerns and May were both also named to the MASCAC all-conference first team. Joining them were Bridgewater State’s Colin Josselyn, Fitchburg State’s Johan Asencio and Nicholas Cordeau, Salem State’s Jake Boucher, Zach Piroh, and Jack Sefrino, Westfield State’s Bryant Dana, Ethan Day, and Brett Dooley, and Worcester State’s Pat Galvin.
There were also twelve student-athletes selected to the All-Conference second team. They were Luke Tamulevich from Bridgewater State, Matthew Pingitore from Fitchburg State, Bobby Higgins from Framingham State, Christian Burt from Salem State, Casey Boudreau, Patrick Jordan, Nate Langmeier, Nick Martin, and Sean Moorhouse from Westfield State, and Chris Ausiello, Sean Devin, and Thomas DiBattista from Worcester State.
