Worcester State Earns Seventh Seed in NCAA Division III Baseball Regional
After claiming the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Title last week, the Worcester State Lancers have been selected as the seven seed for the NCAA Division III Regional beginning on May 14 in Harwich, Massachusetts.
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- After claiming the 2014 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Title last week, the Worcester State Lancers have been selected as the seven seed for the NCAA Division III Regional beginning on May 14 in Harwich, Massachusetts.
Worcester State (25-15, 11-3 MASCAC) will start off regional competition against the second-seeded Southern Maine (31-12, 11-3 Little East) on Wednesday at 8 p.m. All of the regional sites will feature a double elimination format.
The double-elimination bracket also includes fourth-seeded Endicott and fifth-seeded MIT playing at 9:30 am, third-seeded Tufts facing off against sixth-seeded St. Joseph's (Maine) at 1 pm and top-seeded Eastern Connecticut against eighth-seeded Mitchell at 4:30 pm.
The Lancers earned the MASCAC's automatic bid after beating Salem State, 5-2, in the second game of the championship round. Shortstop Dave Ruggiero was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player for batting .412 with six runs, four RBI and a .765 slugging percentage.
Winners of the eight regional tournaments will qualify for the double-elimination championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin, May 23-27.
