39 MASCAC Student-Athletes Honored on the 2021 Spring Sportsmanship Teams
Thirty-nine MASCAC student-athletes were honored as members of the 2021 Spring Sportsmanship Teams. The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the values of the MASCAC and its Sportsmanship Statement, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Thirty-nine Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) student-athletes have been honored for their outstanding sportsmanship as members of the 2021 Spring Sportsmanship Teams.
The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the values of the MASCAC and its Sportsmanship Statement, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season. A student-athlete from each institution is selected by their coach to be placed on the Sportsmanship Team of the sport in which they compete.
“During this unprecedented spring season, I am proud to recognize these 39 outstanding student-athletes that displayed excellent sportsmanship for their respective teams during this challenging time,” Commissioner Angela Baumann said.
The sports that are represented on the spring team are baseball, men’s golf, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field and softball.
Starting off this year’s Spring Sportsmanship teams is baseball. Colin Josselyn of Bridgewater State, Johan Asencio of Fitchburg State, Scott Nosky of Framingham State, Matt Wooster of Massachusetts Maritime, Shawn Rebello of Salem State, Brett Dooley of Westfield State and Issiac Christiansen of Worcester State make up this year’s squad.
Men’s golf had eight representatives on this year’s Sportsmanship team. They included Chris Jaskiewicz from Eastern Nazarene, Christian Pavlakis from Elms, Shamus McLean from Mitchell, Matthew Godbout from Salem State, Joe Piwowarski from Springfield, J.J. Newcombe from Westfield State and Marc Melanson from Worcester State.
Landing spots on the 2021 women’s lacrosse Sportsmanship team were Bridgewater State’s Taylor Carroll, Fitchburg State’s Julia Miele, Framingham State’s Alissa Marino, Massachusetts Maritime’s Cassie Llewellyn, Salem State’s Suzanne Stefanik, Westfield State’s Sam Donohoe and Worcester State’s Hannah Sledzieski.
For men’s outdoor track and field, Jacob Belcher of Bridgewater State, Taban Manyok of Fitchburg State, Gerry Mackin of Massachusetts Maritime, Mitch Maslowski of Westfield State and Hoang Vo of Worcester State are this year’s honorees.
In women’s outdoor track and field Ashley Garvey of Bridgewater State, Selina Gibbons of Fitchburg State, Emily Newcomb of Framingham State, Alyssa Greico of Massachusetts Maritime, Amy O'Sullivan of Westfield State and Bernice Mensah of Worcester State were selected this year.
Finishing out this year’s Spring Sportsmanship teams is softball with Allison Kuchy of Bridgewater State, Molly Grass of Fitchburg State, Zoe Smyth of Framingham State, Lucia Buzzell of Massachusetts Maritime, Mikayla Porcaro of Salem State, Jess Chenard of Westfield State and Ally Tocman of Worcester State all being recognized.
