During the December Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meeting, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference and Little East Conference hosted a joint speaker to discuss the topic of career preparedness.
Greg Fall, the Executive Coach for Career Management Associates out of Portland, Maine, was this year's speaker. He discussed the topics of resume building, cover letter creation as well as interview preparation.
He shared information on how to be 100 percent authentic and 100 percent credible during the hiring process. He shared that using the TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) mentality that they obtained during their time as a student-athlete will come in handy and to make sure to include that information in your resume and interview.
"For Sunday's meeting, I thought there were a lot of positive takeaways," new MASCAC SAAC President Zac Bentley said. "The speaker did an amazing job at hitting key points in subjects that are very crucial for all of us SAAC members right now. Each and every one of us are at some type of level in resume building, internship/job searching, learning how to interview, and doing anything we can to set ourselves up for a great future. No matter the level we are at, we can always improve somewhere. I speak for myself and my fellow SAAC members when I say that being able to meet as a group to help better ourselves and our respective programs means so much. Thank you to Worcester State and everyone involved through the MASCAC and LEC for making that possible."
Following the speaker, the group discussed the D3 legislation that will be voted on at the 2019 NCAA Convention. This year's topics include football, soccer and field hockey start dates, social media deregulation and graduation rate reporting. Emily Goodwin from Massachusetts Maritime, the MASCAC/LEC National SAAC Representative, went over each piece of legislation and shared how National SAAC voted along with if how each conference voted.
