After finishing in the top eight during qualifying on Thursday afternoon, Bridgewater State's Jayci Andrews and Westfield State's Lexi Popp advance to the finals of the 400 meter hurdles of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Andrews completed the race in 1:00.08 as she posted the second fastest time in Thursday's preliminaries. Andrews eclipsed her previous BSU mark of 1:01.37 set at the 2018 NEICAAA Championships. Popp qualified with the eighth fastest time in the hurdles, coming in at 1:02.38.
The finals of the 400-meter hurdles will take place on Saturday afternoon at 2:15 PM. Andrews is seeded fourth in the finals as she placed second in her preliminary heat.
Bridgewater State's Ryan Bain and Joshua Moore finished 11th and 16th, respectively, in the javelin. Bain tossed the javelin 189 feet, 5.25 inches (57.74m), while Moore posted a mark of 181 feet, 9.25 inches (55.40m) while competing out of a field of 20 student-athletes. Both were making their debut at the NCAA Track & Field Championships.
Also competing on Thursday was William Canty of Westfield State in the decathlon. Canty won the final event of the day, the 400 meters, with a time of 49.56, earning 835 points in the event. He started his day with a fourth-place mark in the 100 meter dash, with a personal-best time of 10.98 seconds.
Canty totaled 3,512 on day one, and will need to move up 70 points and four places to get on the podium in Geneva. His day one point total has him close to the pace he set on his school-record mark of 6,765 set a few weeks ago at the All-New England meet, and he will have a chance to get out of the blocks well on Friday in the first event, the 110 hurdles, one of his strengths. The competition will wrap up with the discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1500 meters all on Friday.
Friday's decathlon events begin at 10 am with the 110 hurdles, and will conclude with the 1500 at 4:40 p.m.
