The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted a social media speaker at their Annual Meeting on Sunday, December 3 at Worcester State.
Michael Harrison, the MASCAC and Framingham State Faculty Athletic Representative, presented on the topic of social media and its importance for student-athletes and future careers. He shared some do's and don't's of social media use and what employers may look for when looking at a potential employees social media accounts.
"I was glad to be able to speak to the student-athletes at the SAAC meeting," Harrison said. "It was a pleasure to talk with such an attentive and engaged group of students. The students took to heart the message that posting inappropriate content can cause a student to be passed over for a job...and the student will never know why. They asked a lot of great questions and think we had a very productive session!"
Following the presentation, Harrison opened up the discussion to the student-athletes to share some of their experiences on social media and how they can be more effective users in the future.
"I really enjoyed Michael Harrison's presentation at the meeting this weekend," Kylie Farrell, MASCAC SAAC President said. "He phrased his words in a manner that helped me fully understand the importance of social media. I often found myself thinking that if he was a professor at Worcester State I would love to take his class because he says what needs to be said in a context that is very easy to understand."
Later in the day, the group went over the proposed legislation for this year's NCAA Convention which includes start dates for basketball, football and hockey, alumni game exemptions and sports wagering. They also recorded segments for a video series which will be featured during D3 Week April 2-8.
