North Adams, MA- The MCLA Athletics Department held their 26th annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration on Saturday, January 30th in the Amsler Campus Center Gym. The popular event drew 35 participants that were mixed between girls and adults.  The event was exclusively sponsored by Donovan & O'Connor, LLP.

The gilrs participated in a variety of clinics ranging from Softball, Basketball, and Lacrosse throughout the morning session.  Following the clinics, lunch was provided and then the girls were guests at the MCLA women's basketball game versus Worcester State.  At the conclusion of that contest, the Trailblazer players engaged in an autograph session with the girls.

The adult women were treated to the popular Pickleball games throughout the morning.  There were also sessions centered around fitness and training.  The women also enjoyed the complimentary lunch and were invited to attend the game as well.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day is a nationally celebrated event.  The event is in its 30th year of existence after being launched in 1985.  Each year, the national office selects a theme.  This year's NGWSD theme was "Leading the Way," which is a nod to all those individuals and organizations who are on the front line for girls and women in sports.  The organizations committed to advancing women's issues, athletes who have overcome barriers, coaches who challenge their teams to succeed, girls who have faith in their own potential, and all those who continue to use the power of example to inspire greatness.

For 30 years, NGWSD has empowered women and girls to get moving, embrace physical activity and push past their limits both in sports and in life. We know that when girls participate in sports, they develop the leadership skills to excel in school, at home and in their communities. The courage, confidence and character gained through physical activity are the very tools girls need to become the strong leaders of tomorrow.
