Eight MASCAC Student-Athletes Named to Capital One Academic All-District Teams
Eight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference have been named to their respective sports 2014 Capital One Academic All-District teams as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Eight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference have been named to their respective sports 2014 Capital One Academic All-District teams as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
For football, Marty Voorhis of Bridgewater State, Ty Spencer of Fitchburg State, James McCormack of Plymouth State, Connor Falaguerra of Western Connecticut State and Troy Cutter and Greg Sheridan of Westfield State earned All-District accolades. Sarah Sypek of Westfield State earned the honors for women's soccer while Alyssa Jasper of Worcester State was for volleyball.
Voorhis currently sports a 3.42 grade point average while majoring in accounting and finance. During the 2014 regular season, Voorhis notched 49 tackles (39 solo) including 14 ½ for loss and 3 ½ sacks. The Nashua, New Hampshire native has also forced two fumbles and broken up a pass.
Spencer, a senior architecture major was having a breakout season with 298 receiving yards and two touchdowns in three games before suffering a season-ending injury. The Foxboro native has also received academic recognition as a member of the Dean's List, President's List, and National Collegiate Athlete Honor Society.
McCormack, the junior mathematics major from Saugus, Mass, earned a 3.92 grade point average while collecting tackles on the field. He finished the 2014 season with 32 total tackles with 24 solo.
Falaguerra has a 3.39 grade point average as a communications major. The junior from Milford, Conn. was the top receiver for the Colonials this season with nine touchdowns and over 1,000 yards on 51 receptions.
Cutter maintains a 3.55 grade point average as a
criminal justice major. A team captain and the Owls middle
linebacker, he led the team with 94 tackles. He also has made
10 tackles for a loss, and forced a pair of fumbles.
Sheridan has a 3.93 grade point average as a history
major. The Owls free safety, he has a team-high four
interceptions and made 47 tackles this season.
Sypek has maintained a 3.77 grade point average in business administration while playing soccer and working nearly full time hours between a job at an indoor soccer facility and a summer job with a commercial painting firm. She led the team and the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference in points with 51 and goals at 21.
Sporting a 3.67 grade point average in nursing, Jasper was inducted into the Lancers newly formed Chi Alpha Sigma honor society this past academic year as a junior. She is active in the student-athlete mentor program and a six time MASCAC All-Academic honoree. Jasper boasts totals of 502 kills, 4.37 kills per set and 4.90 points per set.
To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. With selection to the All-District teams, the student-athletes move on to the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.
