MASCAC Student-Athletes Named ECAC Volleyball, Football, Women's and Men's Soccer All-Stars
Student-athletes from around the MASCAC were named to the ECAC All-Stars in the sports of volleyball, football, women's and men's soccer, the conference announced this week.
WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Student-athletes from around the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference were named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Stars in the sports of volleyball, football, women's and men's soccer, the conference announced this week.
For football, Western Connecticut State's Octavias McKoy and Fitchburg State's Garrett Dellechiaie headline the ECAC North team as the Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year honorees. The duo claimed the same titles in the MASCAC last month.
Claiming numerous awards after the conclusion of the season, McKoy was a strong presence for the Colonials this season with 26 touchdowns and an average of 189 yards per contest. He broke the previous record of rushing yards across all NCAA divisions during a game against Worcester State where he rushed for 455 yards.
Dellechiaie had a breakout season for the Falcons, passing for 25 touchdowns and averaging 193 yards per game. In the final game of the year for Fitchburg State, he became their single season touchdown leader.
Joining McKoy as members of the North squad are Bridgewater State's Matthew Green, Rob Ruggiero and Mike Duran, Framingham State's Melikke Van Alstyne, Aaron Ferreira, Pat McGrath, Chevere Archer and Kevin Donahue, Massachusetts Maritime's John Moriarty, Westfield State's Gregg Jackson and Kane Terilli and Worcester State's Casey Hippert.
Brendan Whitson of Worcester State was named to the ECAC All-New England Men's Soccer Second Team. Whitson helped the Lancers to a regular season title after going 10-3-4, 6-0-1 MASCAC league play. The senior from Auburn, Mass., finished top of the list in the conference with 12 goals and three assists on the year for 27 points.
Leading her team to a regular season and conference championship, Westfield State's Julia Warner was named to the ECAC Women's Volleyball All-New England team. Warner was a key piece of the Owls this season with 303 kills for an average of 3.19 kills per set and 324 digs, helping Westfield State to their fourth regular season title in the past five years.
Rounding out the list of honorees is Framingham State's Kayla Austin, who was named to the ECAC All-New England Women's Soccer First Team. Austin was a dominant force for the Rams with 13 goals and 13 assists for 39 points this season. Her efforts helped Framingham State go 13-1-1, 6-0-1 in the MASCAC and nab the regular season title which gave them a first round bye in this week's conference tournament.
