WESTON, MA - St. Joe's opened the 2008 season with
three matches in the Pride Invitational hosted by Regis College on
Friday. SJC was defeated by 3-0 scores at the hands of both Rivier
College and Regis College and fell to Worcester State College in
the nightcap, 3-1.
In the opening match against Rivier, the Lady Monks dropped the
three games 10-25, 10-25 and 16-25. Laura Moreau
'12 (Rollinsford, NH) recorded seven digs and two service
aces, Kiersten Carbone '12 (North Reading, MA) had
five digs, and Katie Boccanelli
'12 (Cottonwood, AL) and Kaila
Schulte '12 (Rochester, NH) each notched a pair of
kills.
St. Joe's lost to tournament-host Regis College 3-0 in the second
match of the day 10-25, 10-25 and 22-25. Samantha Varrell
'12 (Portsmouth, NH) and Kaleigh McHale
'12 (Dracut, MA) both registered seven digs and
Amanda Ruel '09 (Biddeford, ME)
pitched in with five digs. Katie
Boccanelli '12 recorded three total blocks and
three kills in the losing effort.
The Lady Monks faced off against Worcester State College in the
final game of the evening and lost 3-1 (11-25, 25-18, 21-25,
11-25). Kaliopy Hologitas '12
(Rockland, ME) had 16 digs, Laura Moreau '12
recorded 10 digs and Kaila
Schulte '12 posted nine digs in the four-game
match. Jordan Pelczar '12
(Meredith, NH) chipped in with seven kills, Kiersten
Carbone '12 had six kills and Katie
Boccanelli '12 tallied five kills and three total
blocks for St. Joe's.
Saint Joseph's will face off against Mount Ida College and Roger
Williams University on Saturday.
