Zarnoch Twirls Three-Hit Gem as Lancers Take Opener from Rams

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Junior pitcher Kevin Zarnoch (Boston, Mass.) was outstanding on Friday afternoon, throwing a complete game shutout with ten strikeouts to help the Worcester State baseball team defeat Framingham State 1-0 at Bowditch Field in the opener of their Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) series.

Zarnoch allowed just three hits and one walk while improving to 3-0 on the season. The Lancers are now on a five-game winning streak and improve their record to 8-3 in MASCAC play and 14-11 overall.

Sean Devin (Lynn, Mass.) had two of Worcester State's six hits and scored the only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. He led off that frame with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Sean Dutton (Leominster, Mass.) drove him in with a single to left field.

Thomas DiBattista (Hudson, Mass.) also had a pair of hits and now has hit safely in seven of his last eight games. Devin has hits in 11 of his last 12 times in the lineup.

Framingham starter Scott Nosky (Dedham, Mass.) also struck out ten batters, but walked four and fell to 1-5 on the year after giving up the one earned run. Kennedy Wilson (Natick, Mass.) had two of the three hits on the day for the Rams (9-17, 5-6 MASCAC).

The teams will finish their three-game set with a doubleheader in Worcester. First pitch tomorrow is set for 12:00 PM at Lyons Diamond.
