Falcons Defeated By Chargers In Straight Sets
Joubert and Manyak combine for 11 assists for Fitchburg State in non-conference setback
Fitchburg, Mass. - The Fitchburg State Women's Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 straight sets decision to the Chargers of Colby Sawyer College in non-conference action this evening from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened
First Set
Fitchburg State grabbed a 3-2 edge on a service ace from sophomore Meredith Taylor (Reading, Mass.) before Colby-Sawyer took an 8-4 advantage following a kill by sophomore Sam Mohammad (Killingsworth, Conn.). The Falcons cut the lead to 18-14 on a kill from senior Jaquelyn Manyak (Bolton, Mass.), but the Chargers would secure the first set with 25-14 final.
Second Set
The Green and Gold opened with a 4-3 lead as junior Paige Anderson (Winchendon, Mass.) and sophomore Leah Sheehan (Billerica, Mass.) combined for a block, but the Chargers responded with a pair of service aces by freshman Olivia Werner (Williston, Vt.) for the 7-3 advantage. Fitchburg State chipped the deficit to 9-8 on a kill from junior Lauren Riccardi (Tewksbury, Mass.) before Colby-Sawyer closed out the second set with a kill by junior Nicole Matcheski (Sanbornton, N.H.) for the 25-13 middle set victory.
Third Set
Trailing 5-3, Fitchburg State knotted the third set at 6-6 on a kill by Anderson, before Colby-Sawyer went on a 12-2 run, capped by a kill from Werner. The Falcons chipped the lead to 24-14 on a kill from senior Emily Beauvais (Greenville, N.H.) and an Anderson service ace, but the Chargers took the final set, 25-14 as freshman Ava LaValle (Peabody, Mass.) registered a kill.
Inside the Numbers
This evening's contest will mark the tenth meeting between the two teams on the volleyball court with the Falcons 4-6 all-time when taking on the Chargers
Two teams had split the previous six matchups (3-3)
Fitchburg State was led by junior Perry Joubert (Seekonk, Mass.) with a team-best seven assists and two digs, while senior Kathryn Newcomb (Portsmouth, R.I.) added six kills and two digs.
Manyak was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing with four assists and one dig
For Colby-Sawyer, sophomore Anna Allen (Los Angeles, Calif.) collected a match-best 27 assists, one service ace, five digs and two kills, while Mohammad chipped in with 11 kills, one service ace and nine digs.
