Softball Closes Regular Season with Sweep of Fitchburg State

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team swept a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) doubleheader with Fitchburg State this afternoon by scores of 4-1 and 2-1 in eight innings at Maple Street Field.  

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Framingham State 4, Fitchburg State 1 
Framingham State 2, Fitchburg State 1 (8 Innings) 

- Records: Framingham State (20-17, 11-3 MASCAC), Fitchburg State (11-25, 5-9 MASCAC) 

- Location: Maple Street Field Framingham, Mass. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Game 1: Framingham 4, Fitchburg State 1 

  • The Rams took a 1-0 lead on a Kelsey McGuill RBI double to center in the bottom of the first inning. 

  • The Rams extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Makayla Rooney. 

  • The Rams added two more in the bottom of the sixth. Talia Duca doubled scoring the first run and Haley Jensen added an RBI single. 

  • The Falcons tallied a single run in the top of the seventh to reach the final margin. 

  • Ally Moran earned the victory in the circle going seven innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits with three strikeouts. 

  • McGuill finished the game 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI, while Marina Cadena finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. 

Game 2: Framingham 2, Fitchburg 1 (8 Innings) 

  • In game two, the Falcons manufactured a run in the top of the first inning taking a 1-0 lead. 

  • The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh. Madison Solt had a perfect game going for the Falcons until a walk in the fourth inning and held the Rams hitless until the bottom of the seventh. 

  • Marina Cadena singled for the Rams with one out in the seventh and eventually came around to score on an RBI double from Eliza Carignan. 

  • After holding the Falcons off the board in the top of the eighth, the Rams tallied the game winning run in the bottom of the inning. Victoria Connelly led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kelsey McGuill. 

  • Caroline Hughes earned the victory in the circle going eight innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts.
