SALEM, Mass. -- Cole Scott scored two-goals, including the game-winner late in the third period to lift Suffolk to a 3-2 victory over Salem State on Tuesday evening at Rockett Arena. The Rams win their third game of the season (3-7-2) while the Vikings lose their second straight to go to 3-11 on the year.
Suffolk struck first, scoring off a face-off, as Scott tapped in a loose puck for a 1-0 Rams' lead just 1:33 into the contest. Salem State's Ethan Demumbrum found David Cicak for a one-timer to tie the game at 1- apiece at the 16:25 mark at the two teams entered the second period all even.
The game stayed deadlocked until the third when Suffolk's Griffin Clark scored a power-play goal just as the penalty expired 9:25 into the period. However, Peyton Hughes answered with his second goal of the season for the Vikings, evening the game at 2-2. The tie was short-lived as Scott put home a wrist shot for the game-winner at 17:44 of the final period.
Cal Wilcox earned the win in net for the Rams making 23 saves. Aaron Mercer stopped 29 shots in the loss. Suffolk held a 32-25 advantage in shots while Salem State gained a 44-42 face-off margin led by Cicak, who went 14-for-27.
