SALEM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State Bears scored three unanswered goals in the second half to upend the Salem State Lady Vikings, 3-1, in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Confence (MASCAC) game at Alumni Field on Saturday.
Erin O'Brien (Hanson, MA) struck first for
Salem State (8-5, 3-2 MASCAC), scoring at the 16:57 mark of the
first period to give the home team a 1-0 lead. The Lady Vikings
registered three shots on goal in the period, but could not extend
their lead.
Bridgewater State (5-6-2, 1-3-1 MASCAC) scored three unassisted
goals to put the game away in the second half. Amanda
Vigneault (Ludlow, MA) scored her first goal of the year
four and a half minutes into the second period to tie the game at
1-1. Yasmina Carvalho (Brockton, MA) gave the
Bears a 2-1 lead when she chipped a high arcing shot over Salem
State goalie, Leah Potcner (Wilmington, MA) less
than a minute later.
Jillian Herr (Saugus, MA) iced the game when her
shot was misplayed by the Lady Vikings goalie at the 75:14 mark to
give Bridgewater State a two goal lead.
Kayla Grover (Haverhill, MA) made three saves in
goals for the Bears to pick up the victory. Potcner, who made one
save, suffered the loss.
Salem State is back in action on Wednesday, October 21st when they
host Tufts University at 4:00 PM. Bridgewater State hosts
Plymouth State at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, October 20th.
