Falcons Fall to Bears 3-1

Fitchburg, Mass. –
The Fitchburg State men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State University this morning in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, Bridgewater State 3
Records: Fitchburg State (0-8, 0-3 MASCAC) | Bridgewater State (3-6, 1-2 MASCAC)

How It Happened

Bridgewater tipped the twine in the 16th minute for the only goal of the first frame. Grad student Kevin Roberts (Medway, Mass.) streaking down the left wing crossed a pass to teammate Robson Montrond (Brockton, Mass.) who deposited the ball into the lower right corner for his fourth goal of the season.

The Falcons had an opportunity early in the second half when first year Gabriel Teixeira (Lunenburg, Mass.) had a direct kick 30 yards out that Bears netminder William Russell (Sandwich, Mass.) turned away.

The Bears would tack on a pair of goals. First year Carsten Boloz (Southborough, Mass.) notched his first goal of the year and Montrond added his second of the game. The Falcons broke up the shutout when freshman Bennet Jorgensen (Cologne, Germany) converted a penalty kick after a Bridgewater penalty in the box.

Inside the Numbers

  • Bridgewater State held a 23-8 margin in shots, while also finishing with a 7-2 edge in corner kicks
  • Sebastian Jaramillo (Dracut, Mass.) turned aside 9 shots for the Falcons in the setback
  • Russell made five saves for the Bears in the victory
