Women's Basketball Nearly Upsets Bridgewater

FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State women's basketball fell just short in this evening's MASCAC game against the Bears of Bridgewater State.

THE BASICS:

- Score: Bridgewater State 69, Fitchburg 64

- Records: Bridgewater (9-9, 5-0 MASCAC), Fitchburg (4-12, 1-3 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Falcons narrowly gave the Bears their first loss in conference action by outscoring them in the second and third quarters, 38-33. Fitchburg was able to cause Bridgewater to turn the ball over 19 times. The Bears did, however, open the game leading 17-10 after the first quarter and again outscored the Falcons in the fourth 19-16 to clinch the victory. Throughout the contest, there were five ties and nine lead changes.

- Sydney Bradbury topped all scorers this evening with 19 points. Sophia Gaucher finished with a double-double, contributing 17 points and 10 rebounds. Eryn Rice added another 13 points while coming off the bench for Bridgewater.

- Stephanie Hart (Shirley, MA) had another big game for the Falcons with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists. Aliza Som (Lowell, MA) put up another 12 points, along with two rebounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting: The Falcons finished the game shooting 35.7% from the floor, 23.1% from the field, and 65.6% from the line. Bridgewater fell to just 33.8% from the floor, 22.6% from three, and 54.5% from the line.

-  Rebounds: Bridgewater 48, Fitchburg 45

-  Assists: Fitchburg 16, Bridgewater 13
