Men’s Hockey Fights Back to Take Down Westfield State

Westfield, MA: The Rivier men's hockey team came back again this evening in an overtime victory against Westfield State 5-4.

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 11/4/2021

- Score: Rivier 5, Westfield 4

- Records: Westfield (1-2), Rivier (2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Owls took a 2-0 lead into the first break of the night. They tacked one more on at the start of the second period to go up 3-0. However, the second period would end with the Raiders just down one. Francis Young-Menard (St. Paul, QC) got the scoring going for Riv at the 12:52 mark. Ashton Jones (South Lyon, MI) followed up with the Raiders second goal less than a minute later to get the score to 3-2.

-  The scoring continued in the second, with Westfield ending the Raiders string of goals with another one of their own to go back up by two. Rivier would get the last point in the period on a Nicolas Paolucci (Toronto, ON) goal.

- The start of the third period saw the visiting team down 4-3. Rivier tied it up at four, all in the 13^th minute on a power play. Zach Winslow (St. Pete Beach, FL) scored the equalizer to send it into OT.

- There was just over a minute left in the five minute overtime when the Raiders finally were able to beat an impressive Tyler Shugrue in net for the Owls. He had just made two point blank one on one saves to keep the game alive. But the Raiders weren't done, and Milan Breczko (Klasterec, CZR) got him with a wrist shot glove side to end it.

- Luke Newell (Littleton, CO) had an incredible night in goal for the Raiders, seeing 47 shots on goal, in which he saved 43 of them.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Westfield 47, Rivier 30

-  Penalties: Rivier 4 minutes on 2 infractions, Westfield 10 minutes on 5 infractions

-  Power Plays: Rivier 1 for 5, Westfield 0 for 2
