Women's Volleyball Drops Two to Framingham and UNE

FRAMINGHAM, MA: Fitchburg State women's volleyball fell in both contests this afternoon, falling to Framingham State in MASCAC action and then the University of New England in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 10/21/23

- Score: Framingham 3, Fitchburg 0 (13-25, 16-25, 12-25)

             UNE 3, Fitchburg 0 (21-25, 15-25, 10-25)

- Records: Framingham (15-7, 3-2 MASCAC), UNE (11-6), Fitchburg (7-12, 1-4 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Match One

-  Framingham's offense was firing on all cylinders today, racking up double-digit kills in all three sets. As a team, they finished with a .303 kill percentage after having 40 kills on 89 attempts and just 13 errors. Anna Szymanski led the way with a match-high 14 kills and 10 digs. Stella Bailey made it possible for her hitters, dishing out 28 assists.  

- The Falcons struggled to find a groove offensively, finishing the match with a .099 kill percentage. Samantha Mirra (Burlington, MA) topped the squad in both kills and digs. She had seven kills and seven digs. Emily Gelinas (Westfield, MA) finished with 14 assists.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Framingham 40, Fitchburg 20

-  Assists: Framingham 33, Fitchburg 19

-  Digs: Framingham 35, Fitchburg 24

HOW IT HAPPENED: Match Two

-  Match two against UNE was almost a mirror image of the first stat-wise. UNE finished with a .304 kill percentage with 32 kills on 69 attempts and 11 errors. Ellijah Hanley topped the Nor'easters in kills with nine. She also finished with a team-high seven digs. Courtney McDermott delved out 23 assists.   

- Fitchburg was led by Mirra again in both kills and digs. She racked up eight kills and six digs. Gelinas added on another 15 assists in this one.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: UNE 32, Fitchburg 18

-  Assists: UNE 27, Fitchburg 18

-  Digs: UNE 25, Fitchburg 22

- Fitchburg State women's volleyball will be back Wednesday at Salem State. The MASCAC matchup is slated to start at 6 PM.
