Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Salem State in Season-Opener
QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene College collected a 3-0 win over Salem State in the first match of the 2021 campaign Wednesday evening.
The Lions climb to 1-0 on the year with the result while the Vikings dip to 0-1 overall.
Eliana Baran (Beaumont, Calif.) paced the home side with nine kills, six digs, four aces, and three blocks in her collegiate debut. Telma Zelaya (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) also posted nine kills while adding three service aces. Emma Graves (Berkshire, N.Y.) tallied eight kills and four blocks in her first collegiate match. Ruth Aguilar (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) finished with 26 assists to go with three digs and a pair of kills.
Eastern Nazarene captured the first set 25-19 to establish a 1-0 advantage.
The Lions doubled their lead with a 25-16 decision in the second frame.
The hosts secured their first victory of the fall with a narrow 25-21 win in the third.
Genevieve Kempster led Salem State with nine kills and eight digs on the night while Eva Haralabatos chipped in with 18 assists.
Up next, Eastern Nazarene jets off to California to participate in the Pacific Coast Challenge September 3-4. The Lions will face Augustana (Ill.) and La Verne September 3 before wrapping up the trip with matches against Transylvania and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps September 4.
