1Senior captains lead Western New England College past Fitchburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. - Led by senior guards and co-captains Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) and Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, CT), the Western New England College women's basketball team posted a convincing 65-49 victory over host Fitchburg State Wednesday night (Dec. 5) at the Rec Center.

The Golden Bears snapped a four-game skid and avenged a 62-39 loss to the Falcons last December 7.

Dabrowski netted a game high 22 points and pulled down five rebounds with two assists and a pair of steals.

DeRosa had one of the best all-around performances of her career with 11 points, seven assists, and six steals.

Freshman guard Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) was the other Golden Bears' player in double figures with 10 points along with five boards.

The teams took a 27-27 tie into the locker room at half-time before WNEC opened the second half with a 20-8 run highlighted by a pair of three-pointers by Dabrowski and junior guard Dina Federico (Springfield, MA) who formerly played at Fitchburg.

Western New England College (3-4) shot 46.0% from the field, including 52.0% after the break. The Golden Bears held the Falcons to only 30.0% shooting from the field and forced 26 turnovers.

Senior forward Diana Doyle (Springfield, MA) had a double-double for Fitchburg with 14 points and 13 rebounds while sophomore guard Michelle Ridge (Milton, MA) contributed 12 points.

The Falcons fall to 4-2 after having their three-game win streak ended.
