Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior midfielder Jacklyn Wisocky (Brockton, MA) notched a pair of goals and classmate Christine Soucy (Rockland, MA) added three assists to lead the Bridgewater State College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Rhode Island College this afternoon at Swenson Field in Bridgewater.

The Bears (2-3-1) snapped a four-game winless streak with the win. Bridgewater is now 9-1 all-time versus RIC since the teams first met in 2000. The Anchorwomen drop to 1-4 on the season.

Wisocky opened the scoring in the ninth minute of play as a pass from Soucy sent her in on a one-on-one opportunity against the RIC netminder.  Wisocky made the most of her chance as she rifled a shot into the lower-right corner of the goal.

The Bears had a number of scoring opportunities before Wisocky's goal as Soucy hit the far left post within the first two minutes of play and junior forward Kristina Ortiz (Dedham, MA) was stopped on a breakaway.

After taking the lead, BSC kept the pressure on and capitalized on a corner kick just over three minutes later.  Soucy lofted the corner right in the middle of the goal mouth and an unguarded Yasmina Carvalho (Sr., Brockton, MA) headed in the cross for her first career goal.

Seven minutes later, it was Soucy and Wisocky teaming up again to give the Bears a 3-0 advantage.  Soucy started the play at midfield as she drove the ball to left of the 18.  Wiscocky tracked down the pass, turned to the goal and drove a shot into the far top-corner of the net.

Bridgewater outshot the Anchorwomen, 19-2, in the first half and had nine corner kicks.  The Bears would finish with 34 shots for the game.

Bridgewater maintained a 3-0 lead inside the final ten minutes of play when RIC got on the board on a goal by junior midfielder Alicia Lardaro (Peace Dale, RI) in the 82nd minute.  Freshman forward Agustina Amaya (Providence, RI) set up the scoring chance as she fed a pass to Lardaro at the top of the 18.  Lardaro ripped a shot past the outstretched hand of the BSC keeper and inside the right post.

Junior goaltender Maddie Pirri (Bristol, RI) turned aside a season-high 16 shots in the loss for the RIC.  Bridgewater State junior Kayla Grover (Haverhill, MA) made two saves to post her first win of the season in goal for the Bears.

Bridgewater will travel to Westfield State College on Saturday (1:00) for a key Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference game with the Owls.  Rhode Island hosts Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut State University on Saturday at noon.
