Schuster's Last Minute Goal Lifts Chargers to 11-10 Comeback Win at Fitcburg State

FITCHBURG, Mass. - April 2, 2019 - Colby-Sawyer senior Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) scored the game-winning goal with 35 seconds left to play as the Chargers erased a six-goal deficit to earn an 11-10 comeback victory at Fitchburg State.

Colby-Sawyer pushes its win streak to six-straight to improve to 7-2. Today's win marked the first victory over the Falcons in five tries. The Chargers will host Castleton tomorrow at 4 p.m. The two teams met last in the 2018 North Atlantic Conference championship. Fitchburg State drops to 1-8.

The game was tied 10-10 at 9:45 showing in the second half. Each team had multiple chances down the stretch but neither could convert until Schuster's game-winner. Fitchburg State had a real good chance with less than two minutes to play as Jessica Hall took a long pass and broke free from the Colby-Sawyer defenders. She entered the circle alone with just the goalie to beat, but Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass) was up to the task and made a terrific save to preserve the tie. With 35 seconds left, the Falcons were whisteled for a foul as Schuster was driving towards goal. She was awarded a free-position and calmly found the back of the net with the game-winner.

Schuster finished the game with three goals and an assist. She moved into eighth place on the all-time goals list with 125 and is now t-8th in career points with 156. Sarah Morin (Pelham, N.H.) led all players with five goals and seven ground balls. Brittany Ireland (Amherst, N.H.) tallied a couple of assists to move into third on the all-time list with 56. Briana Couture (South Hadley, Mass.) contributed two goals, while Jess Tattersall (Keene, N.H.) added one. Mattie Iaria (Hingham, Mass.) registered a game-best four caused turnovers.

Fitchburg State was led by a four-goal effort from Tracy Long. Julia Miele added three goals. Sarah Napolitano posted two goals and three assists.

The Falcons were clicking on offense early in the first half and took a 2-0 lead less than a minute into the contest. The home team kept the momentum going and added two more goals to take a 4-0 lead.

Colby-Sawyer stopped the run when Ireland set up Couture for the Chargers' first tally of the game.

Fitchburg State responded with a Miele goal and two scores from Tracy to take the largest lead of the game at 7-1.

The Chargers found their stride in the final six minutes of the frame and outscored the home team 3-1 to cut the deficit to 8-4 at the half.
