Falcons Drop 2021 Season Opener To Dean, 42-6

Kimball connects on 21 yd and 38 yd field goals for Green and Gold

Franklin, Mass.– The Fitchburg State University football team opened its 2021 season this afternoon, dropping a 42-6 decision to the Bulldogs of Dean College in non-conference action from Lippert Field.

How It Happened

Dean opened with an early 14-0 advantage on a pair of David Curry (Bethlehem, Ga.) touchdown passes to senior Errol Breaux (Baton Rouge, La.) of 38 yards and 36 yards before the Fitchburg State cut the lead to 14-6 right before the half as senior Mac Kimball (Bow, N.H.) connected on a pair of field goal from 21 yards and 38 yards out.

Following the break, the Bulldogs upped its lead to 21-6 when Breaux hauled in a 71 yard pass from Curry on the first play from scrimmage to start the third quarter. Curry would find Breaux yet again midway through the third, this time for the ten yard strike to make the score 28-6.

Dean secured the victory as Breaux ran it in from four yards out to polish off a nine play, 90 yard drive, resulting in the 42-6 final.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest marks the first ever matchup between the Falcons and the Bulldogs on the Gridiron

Offensively for the Falcons, junior Frank Sims IV (Peabody, Mass.) led the way, rushing for 101 yards on 21 carries, while freshman Tahjeron Wade (Oakland, Calif.) added 65 yards on the ground.

For the Bulldogs, Curry finished 18-of-30 for 372 yards and five touchdowns, while Breaux caught eight passes for 247 yards and five scores.

Defensively, sophomore Eduardo Guzman (Methuen, Mass.) led Fitchburg State with a team-best eight tackles on six solo stops and two assisted tackles as well as one TFL, while junior Dakotah Lucero (Los Lunas, N.M.) added seven total tackles (4 solo, 3 assisted).

For Dean, sophomore Dre Kidd (Manassas, Va.) finished with a game-leading 13 stops on three solo tackles and ten assisted stops to go along with a pair of TFL's, while junior Desmond Dias (Rochester, Mass.) chipped in with nine tackles (3 solo,
